ARCHITECTURAL FABRICATION & INSTALLATION

PROJECT INFO

Client: Icon Brickell Yoo-Phillipe Starck / Miami

Category: Shop Drawing, Automated Robotic Fiberglass and Gel Coat Depostion, Tooling,  Automated Composite Fabrication, Metalisation

GMD laser scanned hand sculptured maquettes, cleaned and remodeled data as 27 foot enlargements of column covers for mixed use development. GMD took on-site as built drawings of site conditions in order to develop installation strategies and modify enlargements to meet architectural conditions. GMD developed robotic processes to facilitate composite fabrication of 97 column covers.  Five two-part direct tools with mating flanges were produced to fabricate parts. Tooling was set up in cartridge like manner to allow for robotic gel coat spraying, automated chopper gun fiberglass application, and automated part trimming. Composite parts were metalized while in tooling  with bronze, brass and steel metals. Specialized installation jigs were developed for on site installation. GMD coordinated with architects, design teams, and contractors through shop drawings and performed on-site installation.
